Everybody loves March.
The snow is melting, the days are getting longer, and the whole city is in a better mood, knowing that the dark days of winter are behind us and spring is right around the corner. Another great thing about March is that there are tons of exciting events going on throughout the month.

1) Skating at Elk Island National Park

2) The Slush Cup

The Slush Cup is the annual closing event of the Edmonton Ski Club and never fails to delight everyone who attends. Basically, skiers and snowboarders meet, launch themselves down a hill, and attempt to clear an Olympic size slush pond. Regardless of whether you’re taking part in the event or just watching, the Slush Cup is a guaranteed must-attend event in Edmonton. There’s plenty of other events, food, drinks, and socializing as well so be sure to come check it out.
3) University of Alberta Observatory
Thursdays 12 – 1 pm and 8 – 9 pm throughout the month of March
The University of Alberta Observatory offers free solar and evening observing for the public at various times throughout the month of March. See the stars, meet and speak to real astronomers, and get a chance to explore the universe at the U of A observatory. The observatory also showcases a fascinating meteorite collection that includes samples from Buzzard Coulee (Saskatchewan) and Whitecourt (Alberta).
4) Winter Warrior Challenge
Like running? Obstacle Courses? The Winter Warrior Challenge has it all. Navigate through 10 obstacles and 5 km of scenic outdoor running track in support of a good cause. $15 from each registration is donated directly to The Rainbow Society of Alberta.
5) Edmonton Home and Garden Show

The Edmonton Home and Garden Show is one of the largest renovation shows in Edmonton and features over 600 speakers, booths, and kiosks from the City’s leading landscaping companies, interior design firms, remodeling contractors, and much more. 6) Canadian College Finals Rodeo

Watch top athletes from 18 of Western Canada’s top universities and colleges steer wrestle, bull ride, and perform in a wide variety of other rodeo events for their chance to win the prized Champion Buckle. 7) Romeo and Juliet by the Alberta Ballet

8) The International Exhibition of Sherlock Holmes

See Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary masterpiece come to life in this interactive exhibit of the world’s best known fictional detective, Sherlock Homes. 9) Western Canada Fashion Week
March 24th – March 31st
Since 2005, Western Canada Fashion Week has grown to become Canada’s second largest fashion week, featuring both up and coming local and international designers. Attendees can expect to see dazzling runway shows, design competitions, performances, and pop up shops.
